Welcome to Fall and a DIY Surprise!

September 27, 2018 by Patti 10 Comments

Hey there my peeps 😉

As you know, I’ve not been writing here as often lately but I promise you that I am writing and I am working on something that I’ll soon share at Old Things New. Today I’d like to give you a heads up on a few things that are in the works, but first, here’s a peek at my Fall decor.

I don’t have an over abundance of Fall decorations because I’m really wanting to go slow and not over decorate in our new and smaller home. Alas, home staging may have ruined me for abundance!

Come on in!

Glass pumpkins.

Velvet pumpkins.

Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere.

And this wreath with pumpkins. I always wanted a range hood where I could hang things and now I have it!

This sign right here. GATHER. It was a house warming gift from some dear friends of ours. When the wife handed it to me it kinda’ made me cry. I think that’s because it sums up what we want our new home to be all about. The gathering of friends and friends becoming family.

My friend, you demonstrate your faithfulness in all the things you do for the brothers and sisters; even when they are strangers to you, you treat them as family. -3 John 5 The Voice

I’ve had the sign for a couple of months now and I’ve known exactly where I would hang it but Mr. OTN and myself needed to prepare the place where it would go. That’s where the DIY surprise comes in.

In a recent video tour of our home I showed you the bookcases we had custom built on either side of the television area. The TV was just a big black box between them and it looked odd but we knew it wasn’t going to stay that way.

You can find the video tour HERE if you didn’t catch it before. NOTE: It is best viewed on a device that you can pinch out to view larger, like an iPad. Otherwise the picture looks kinda’ tall and skinny.

This particular DIY was more like a New Things Old project than an Old Things New project as we’ve been creating our own barn wood. Why? Because real barn wood is incredibly expensive and pine boards are not. Plus, it’s fun to create something that comes out so awesome!

Are you ready for my barn wood entertainment wall reveal?

Sometime in the near future I’ll be back with a step-by-step tutorial for creating faux barn wood. This truly is the most realistic looking faux barn wood I’ve ever seen.

So, what’s to come? Tomorrow I’ll be back to share my review of a brand new book written by my dear friend Debbie Kitterman. And guess what? There will be a GIVEAWAY involved! I just love the chance to win prizes don’t you?

Finally, I’ve joined the Write 31 Days Challenge and have committed to write every day during the month of October. Every day, one topic. I’ve already been at work outlining my topic and on Monday, October 1st, I’ll be back to reveal what I’ll be writing about.

I PROMISE you, it WILL NOT BE BORING!

It looks like you’re going to be hearing a lot more from me over the next month and I’m trying to decide how to share my writing without flooding your mailboxes. Maybe I’ll post my daily writing weekly or twice weekly. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyway, I’m excited to share what I’ve been working on. Until tomorrow . . .

Love your “barn wood” backing for the tv. The tv definitely blends in better to the darkness of the wood. We can’t wait to see the tutorial for the “barn wood”.

Thank you Miss Kitty. I’m thinking of incorporating the tutorial into my Write 31 Days in October story as I’m trying to break it up with a few DIYs. Blessings 🙂

Thank you so much Candice. I think the velvet pumpkins are my favorite too. I need to put up the tutorial I did for them on my sidebar again I think. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
