Day 27 – Maintaining our Freedom & a DIY Journal

October 27, 2018 by Patti 1 Comment

Write 31 Days – 31 Days,Every Day,One Topic

Day 27

(day 1 starts here)

I cannot believe how close we are to the end of this 31 Days. It has been intense y’all. I’ve shared my story, my path to freedom, and I’ve shared how the enemy would like to steal that freedom right back! Today I want to share with you the KEY to maintaining freedom.

A few months back I shared that I’d been through a “spiritual depression” coming on the heels of lot of hard stuff that assaulted me and my family. I made a BIG mistake at the time when, in my weariness, I laid my Bible and journal aside and stopped seeking God in the mornings. You can read all about it (and listen to a great song) HERE.

I know, that I know, that I KNOW that daily Bible reading, journaling, prayer, personal praise and worship (along with maintaining fellowship with other Christ followers for accountability) are what keep me on track through all the highs and lows of life. I cannot afford to let that slide because I also KNOW that I will slip right down into a pit of self-pity and “Why me?”

I cannot over emphasize how important daily Bible reading and prayer are to keeping ahead of the enemy! Click To Tweet

There are a number of Bible reading and journaling plans available (I like variety so I switch them up often) but I’m going to share one simple one that you can start doing today. S.O.A.P was the first plan I ever tried and it comes out of New Hope Church in Honolulu, HI.

This is what the acronym stands for: S=Scripture; O=Observation; A=Application; P=Prayer, and below is an example of a day from my own journal:

New Hope Church has a one-year reading plan in PDF format which you can download HERE. I have also done a three-year reading plan that can feel a little more doable, but it’s really a matter of preference.

Keeping a written record of my thoughts as I read through the Bible has been a way to highlight the victories in my life and to record what God has spoken to me through the Scripture. I have many dog-eared, starred, and highlighted pages in my journals that I often look back on and every time I review these pages I’m blessed as I’m reminded once again, of God’s promises to me.

Deep roots in God's Word are needed to maintain our freedom and to be victorious in our daily lives. Click To Tweet

As a bonus today, here’s a simple DIY:

I shared how to create an inexpensive and personalized journal way back when I was brand new to blogging but I’ll share it again today because it fits the message. The complete instructions can be found right HERE.

Deep roots are developed in our time alone with God, reading His word to us and writing our thoughts back to Him in prayer.  These roots enable us to survive, even thrive in the midst of all life’s battles. This I believe with all my heart.

Tomorrow, Day 28, I’ll be sharing some about our move to SC, building a new home, and The Next New Thing.

Blessings until tomorrow my friends,
