Modern Glam Living Room

February 28, 2017 by Patti 9 Comments

Spring begins in February in South Carolina.  At least it has this year with record high temperatures, lots of sunny days, and Spring flowers early to bloom.  We can only hope there isn’t a stretch of cold weather in March to ruin our peach crop.

Recently I was contacted by Douglas Elliman’s Florida Real Estate team to share a Style Board highlighting the color of the year, GREENERY.   That was an easy fit for me because I love the color green and the first thing I did after taking down my Winter decor was to start adding touches of it around my home.

I’ll share more pictures of that later, but first I want to share the Style Board I put together highlighting a Modern Glam Living Room in greens, golds, and creams.  It isn’t at all like the style I have in my own home but I find it quite fun to play around with different styles on Polyvore.

Here it is:

What do you think of my Modern Glam Living Room?  I think I could move right in  . . . as long as I didn’t have a dog . . . or a husband . . . or red dirt on my own shoes from tramping around the garden.

At the end of this post I’ll share the links to the items I posted to my style board.  I don’t make a single penny from any sales on these sites but I thought it would be interesting to show you how much this room would actually cost to put together.  Can you guess what the most expensive item is?  Second most expensive?  You might be surprised!

Anyhoo, here are some photographs of the ways I’ve used Greenery to usher Spring into our den.

I’ve used a lot of boxwood and moss balls because I love the look of green in nature the best.  I also have some new pillow covers that I got from a company called Yapatkwa.  It is a Belgian tapestry store and their pillow covers are heirloom quality.  No, I’m not receiving a commission there either but I like what they have to offer.

Now for the prices and the links to the items in my Hollywood Glam Living Room:

Modern Glam Living Room by patricia-a-krank

Sphere light
$4,009 – popmap.com

Sheep skin rug
$300 – very.co.uk

HiEnd Accents faux fur throw
$100 – jcpenney.com

Inspirational throw pillow
$90 – plaidfox.com

Faux fur throw pillow
$18 – smile.amazon.com

LSA International gold home decor
$29 – amara.com

NDI leaf home decor
$298 – ndi.com

Lumbar throw pillow
$195 – chairish.com

Green couch
$2795 – onekingslane.com

Regency coffee table
$3790 – kathykuohome.com

Safavieh furniture
$218 – overstock.com

Rustic wood furniture
$1263 – kathykuohome.com

Did you guess the most expensive item correctly?  Yikes!  I’m pretty sure I could find a knockoff for a fraction of the price.  My favorite items are the sphere light fixtures . . . but $4009?  I can’t even!
So now that I’ve had my Greenery up for a couple of weeks I’m itching to pull down the Easter decor and start adding some pastels into the mix.  How is the weather where you are?  Are you decorating for Spring or Easter yet?  Time is flying by!
Blessings,

Bookcases Going Green for Spring!

March 8, 2016 by Patti 21 Comments

I love going on vacation this time of year because when you come home after only a week away there are so many changes.  The temperatures have warmed by 10 degrees, the swelling buds on the trees have begun to explode into flowers, the sun shines brighter, and the birds chirp louder . . . or so it seems.

I enjoy changing out the bookcases in our den with the Seasons.

Since Spring is about to burst forth I’ve added a lot of green accents.

I think it’s pretty great of Mr. OTN to let me rummage through his office for books of green.

This is his favorite room to relax in after a long day at work and he actually takes great delight in my making it a comfortable place for him to come home to.

Bookcases Going Green 018

Do you have a favorite room?  The rooms that we spend the most time in can become kind of messy and neglected but I believe it’s important to take care to make these rooms as welcoming as any other part of the home.  These spaces can be real sanctuaries, places of escape from the outside world.

Is the weather becoming Springlike yet where you live?  Have you begun any Spring cleaning or Spring decorating?  Sometimes we just have to start the ball rolling and wait for the weather to follow!

Almost Spring blessings to you my friends 😉

St. Patrick’s Day Shenanigans!

March 17, 2014 by Patti 5 Comments

08-Vintage Strawberry Box Centerpiece and St Patti's Day Decor 023

Aw . . . ’tis St. Patrick’s Day. What a lovely excuse for a wee party,  a bit ‘o singin’ and a dancin’.  That’s what my Irish father would have said in answer to my childhood plea, “Speak Irish for us dad!”  I used to love hearing my father put on his Irish brogue to entertain me and my friends.  He might also say, “I’ll whip your bloody behind if ye don’t behave!,”   which always caused squeals of delight.

St. Patrick’s Day decorations are a nice way to transition into Spring.  I’ve removed the snowy winter display from my coffee table cloche and replaced it with this happy Irish leprechaun.

He even has his own pot of gold!

And this fun little frame-within-a-frame can be changed out with each holiday.

I have a whole set of different holiday pictures, courtesy of The Graphics Fairy of course!

This little guy can be seen around my house the whole year round.

You never know where he might pop up . . . kind of like The Elf on the Shelf.

3-St Patti's Day 009-001

Last year on St. Patrick’s Day I wrote about our family tradition where each grandchild received their own personal leprechaun from my father.  You can read more about that tradition HERE.

5-St Patti's Day 013-001

Right now he is hanging out on the bookshelf beside my Irish Papa’s picture.

Sooo . . . this is where the “shenanigans” part of this post comes in!  Sasha is all dressed up and ready for another holiday.

3-St Patti's Day 012

She looks so very patient but can you see the pleading look in her eyes as she longs for the treat in the bottom of her mug?  “Can we eat  now mom, can we, can we?”

4-St Patti's Day 015

5-St Patti's Day 016

7-St Patti's Day 023

“Ohhh, that was delicious . . .  but WAIT . . .  is that a piece of cookie I see on the table?”

6-St Patti's Day 019

“Should I do it?  Do I dare?”

8-St Patti's Day 028

“Got it!”

“SASHA!!!”

9-St Patti's Day 027

“I’m sorry mom but I really couldn’t help myself.  Besides, do you see what the sign says?”

1-Irish Prayer 001-001

“Is there anything more holy than a table covered in cookie crumbs?”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and an Irish blessing to you too,

Happy St. Patti’s Day!

March 16, 2013 by Patti 8 Comments

Saint Patti’s Day
That is what my parents always called St. Patrick’s Day when I was a child.  No wonder it felt like such a special day and that I felt so closely tied to my Irish heritage. Even though I am an American mongrel and have more Finnish blood than anything else, I loved having a day named just for me. This was just one of the ways my parents made me feel special.
My parents are both gone now but this little guy always reminds me of my dad. A tradition that began once my parents had grandchildren was for each grandchild to receive their very own leprechaun from my father. He waited until they were old enough to understand and then he gave them their leprechaun with a secret name. The name was never to be told to anyone else and known only to each individual grandchild and their Poppy.
I am the baby in a family that was spread out over many years so my own youngest child was only an infant when her Poppy died. He didn’t forget her though and when she was old enough my mother gave her the leprechaun that was set aside just for her.   My girls still remember the names of their leprechauns and they still hold their secret names to themselves. What a wonderful tie to their Poppy and their Irish heritage.
I was having tea with a friend this week and we came across this tea from Ireland that I simply couldn’t pass up.  I still have both of my in-laws and since my mother-in-law is Irish and loves tea I had to buy this as a gift for her. Gift of the Gab! What a great name for a tea shared with a few women.
And here is a little Irish gal that I printed from The Graphics Fairy to add to my St. Patti’s Day decor.
Her eyes are green just like mine! That was another thing that made me feel especially Irish as a child.
No matter what your heritage St. Patrick’s Day is a day for the wearin’ o’ the green (unless you’d like a good pinch).
I’ll be cooking a traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage and  enjoying the feeling of having had parents that loved me so much that they named a day of the year just for me!
May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be ever at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
