The Christmas Porch at Our Lake House

December 22, 2014 by Patti 2 Comments

I know, I KNOW, I wasn’t going to do any more posts this year . . . and I don’t want anything to take away from the wonderful time we’re enjoying with our family . . . so I promise this will be a quick one. When I received these pictures of the Christmas Porch at Our Lake House I just couldn’t help sharing them with you.  By the way, I also know that this isn’t OUR lake house any longer, but we still feel a great connection to this home, even more so because our dear friends John & Debbie purchased it from us.

So many happy memories were made in this house on the lake and we’re very happy to know that our friends are enjoying living here too.

My dear friend Debbie always says she doesn’t know how to decorate but with a little inspiration from Pinterest and other sources,

Porch at lakehouse 7.jpgI think she’s done a magnificent job of giving her front porch a welcoming Christmassy feeling.

In true Old Things New fashion Debbie hit the thrift stores,

Porch at lakehouse5.jpgalong with a few Christmas boutiques and craft stores,

then pulled all of her collected ideas together,

into one beautiful front porch vignette!

Porch at lakehouse3.jpgTotally Pinworthy, don’t you think?

Porch at lakehouse 12.jpgDebbie says she has always dreamed of having a front porch to decorate.

Now her dream has come true.  Look out Deb, you may soon have other people coming to you for help with their front porch décor!

Back to the family now . . .

Christmas Blessings to you dear readers!

Inspired in Seattle Part 3!

February 18, 2013 by Patti 15 Comments

So this is the last part of my 3-day Girl’s Getaway to Seattle . . . browsing, shopping, eating and just plain relaxing! If you missed Part 1 and Part 2 please link back to see some great locally owned stores.

Well, we started out this day with a strong need for fortification for the day ahead. Can you believe what we found? A store by the name of The Chocolate Box. What more can I say?
They had chocolates of course . . .
. . . but they also had a Hot Chocolate Bar!
After a salted caramel mocha and a sample of the European Sipping Chocolate we were ready to face the day.

Here’s Deanna stating her opinion on the whole thing! Isn’t she just so cute?

We saw a LOT of home decor stores on this particular day, with a variety of styles but this was my favorite and the one I chose to highlight. This store has a great mix of styles from rustic to elegant.

Let’s go inside . . .

Here we go with the light fixtures again. I love this chandelier made from vintage electric insulators.
The next fixtures are coastal inspired. Does this make you think of a puffer fish?
 How about an octopus?
This reminds me of the cork floats on a fishing boat,

And this one makes me think of sea grass waving under the ocean.

On to some of the wall hangings. I was really drawn to this horse head for some reason.
These are really fun! My oldest daughter tells me, “No animal heads on the walls!”
This old headboard is amazing as wall art. It got me to thinkin’ . . .
Here you have some of the seating sold in the store.
 Nice legs, huh?

All very unique, right? The chairs to this dining set spoke to me with their elegance . . .

. . . combined with rusticity.

Here are a few more vignettes for you . . .

. . . and a beautifully arranged seating area. There is definitely a lot of Asian influence in Pacific NW decorating.
Great Jones Home is a wonderful store and I’ve only given you a peek at all that they have to offer. One Seattle reviewer said, “If Elle Magazine had a store, this would be it!” They are in the process of working on their website but check back, and pay them a visit the next time you are in Seattle.
So how could I end this final Seattle post without a visit to the famous Pike Place Market? A whole ‘nother kinda shopping experience!

This is one of the market’s famous “fish throwers” posing for my camera!

Haha! That is one BIG mouth!
I really love Seattle and I miss living closer to this beautiful city (my childhood home).  It is a great vacation destination, with so many fun things to do and see. I hope you all get the chance to experience Seattle one day.

I’m so glad you joined me and my great friend Deanna on our shopping experience. Time to roast some vegies and get the fish on the grill!

      Blessings,

Inspired in Seattle Part 2

February 14, 2013 by Patti 6 Comments

So, here is Part 2 of my girl’s getaway trip to Seattle.  If you missed Part 1 and want to see some fabulous finds for the home you can link back here.

The second stop on our three day trip was to Cranberry Cottage, in Bothell, WA.  (located just northeast of Seattle in Country Village)
This shop is filled with vintage and handmade items. The artisans  take turns volunteering their time to work in the shop and they were so gracious to allow my camera in!  I was inspired almost to the point of drooling over the many beautiful finds in this store, but since I can’t make everything I see (imagine that!) I had to break down and buy a little something just for me.

This is the site that greeted me as I walked in the front door.
So much to see in so little time.  I already know that I’ll be going back for more!
I’ll zoom in on some items now so you can be sure to see all the details:

This pretty little cornucopia nest makes me long for Spring.
I’m always eyeing old picture frames while out “thrifting”.  A little painting, a little distressing and a piece of jewelry sure glams this one up!
More lampshade inspiration (continuued from my last post).

Fragrant soaps wrapped in paper and burlap and a silver urn filled with burlap flowers and moss. All so pretty!

This ruffle pillow is darling . . . and here are some more creatively wrapped soaps.  I’d love some of these for my guest bath.

I’m working on dressing up some of my own miniature dress forms so I had to get a picture of  this beautifully dressed mannequin.

There were many chalk painted furniture pieces in the store. This one was unique because the inset on the top was decoupaged with a print of old keys and the artist added brass keys across the front of the table. Very clever!

I love the look of the hem on this stamped pillow . . .

. . . and this picture made from burlap and frayed fabric was simple yet lovely.

There were old books decorated with unique buttons . . .

. . . and books covered in pretty graphics.

Some fantastic chandeliers . . .this one rustic . . .

. . . and this one elegant.  Notice that the pearls are tied in place with black netting, and the “candles” are wrapped with sheet music.

Oh look, another lampshade!

I’ll finish with a picture of an OldThingsNew idea that I thought was amazing!  Do you recognize what this is?
Yes, it is a Piano Bar! The keys were moved to the sides of the piano. Here you see them on the right . . .
. . . and here on the left.  You can also see the strings from inside the piano set as a backdrop to the actual bar area. I think this one wins the prize for MOST FABULOUS!
So Part 2 comes to an end but be sure to check back for Part 3 which promises to be another, totally different Seattle shopping experience. I hope the creativity of the artisans at Cranberry Cottage has inspired you and I’d like to encourage you to visit their store when you are in the Seattle area, or check out their website today.

NOTE: I’m not being compensated in any way for reviewing this local business on this post.
