Get Rid of the Grinchy Christmas Spirit for Good!

December 8, 2017 by Patti 14 Comments

How are you feeling this holiday season?  Based upon my quiet observation of:  people rolling down their windows and laying on horns to let those stopped in the middle of the intersection know just how stupid they really are, tired shoppers snapping at exhausted clerks in long lines at the shopping mall, or sobbing toddlers in a heap on the floor begging their mamas to be done already, I’d say that there is quite a bit of Grinchyness of spirit going around this year.

So I’m pulling up a post from Christmas past to share with you again.  I do hope it strikes a chord with those of you who may be feeling a bit undone and lacking in Christmas cheer.

Freedom Friday – God is Greater Than all our Storms

September 8, 2017 by Patti 10 Comments

A brand new day is dawning here in South Carolina and the weather forecasters say it will be a beautiful weekend, sunshine and 70’s.  But a storm is coming, and we’ve had a state of emergency declared, as Hurricane Irma blows her way toward Florida and then into the southeastern states.

Today my mood is light and, like the weekend forecast, I anticipate a fun weekend ahead with my hubby.  Right now the worries over my own life storms seem far, far away . . .

We all have stuff that can weigh us down don’t we?  The negative thoughts (real or imagined) that assault our minds, or actual outward circumstances that we can’t control.  The good news is:

Freedom Friday – Focus on God Destroys Fear of What Surrounds Us

July 28, 2017 by Patti 27 Comments

A God smile just for you 🙂

Faith in God includes having faith in how He acts - Pastor Jeremy Havlin Click To Tweet

Hoo boy!  That can be hard when He doesn’t seem to be acting the way we think He should, can’t it?

Perhaps you have an impossible situation in your life that you’re asking God to fix.  You can see what needs to happen to fix the problem and maybe you’re even telling God what you think He should do,  as if He doesn’t already know the end from the beginning.

Welcome to FREEDOM FRIDAY – A devotional, emotional, spiritual and sometimes hysterical series that I will be sharing on occasional Fridays, in addition to my regular Old Things New posts. Why?  Because though once bound in chains Christ has set me free –  FREE to live, to love, to dance, to sing, to be who God created me to be!

Perseverance Part 5 – Wishing, Waiting, and Pursuing

May 16, 2017 by Patti 3 Comments

“Two years ago, my story of purpose, in the second part of my life, began when I walked through a set of glass, double doors for the last time. I left confident, full of hope and with dreams that seemed in my reach.” – Mary Geisen

No matter what season of life we’re in, most of us have hopes and dreams for the future don’t we?  At least I hope we do because the Bible says in Proverbs 29:18 that without vision God’s people perish.

But what happens when the journey that God leads us on looks different than we’d imagined?  And what happens when our purpose doesn’t seem to be coming to fruition?  How do we keep from letting go of the dream that God has placed within us when we are in a long period of waiting?

Perseverance Part 3 – When Prayers Remain Unanswered

May 2, 2017 by Patti 53 Comments

“Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer.  Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.” Psalm 22:2 NLT

Have you ever found yourself in the same place as the Psalmist, feeling abandoned and hurt over prayers that have gone unanswered?

I firmly believe that God delights in answering our prayers and yet . . . when the answers are long in coming, and the situations more painful than I feel I can bear, I’ve been known to ask the big “WHY?”  How do we cope when God remains silent in response to our cries? Click To Tweet
