I have this friend. She has an opinion about what I “should” do in nearly every area of my life. The only areas where she doesn’t weigh in are in more private matters, but that’s only because I keep them private. Do you have anyone in your life like this friend of mine?
Not too long ago she asked me what I thought about letting my hair go grey. When I gave her my reasons for coloring it – I like my hair the color it is, it has more body and looks thicker when I color it, my husband likes it and doesn’t care about the money I’m wasting :), I feel younger without the grey – it was as though I hit a nerve as she began giving me a long list of reasons why I SHOULD go grey, topping the list off by telling me I can’t really like the person God created me to be if I can’t accept the way He created me.
Let me assure you that I love grey hair. I think grey hair is beautiful. My older sister allowed her hair to go grey recently and it is a halo of white (I can only hope that mine will look like hers someday). So maybe I’m stubborn (oh you know that I am) but I’m just not ready to embrace the grey just because someone tells me I should.
Today I want to tell you where I am happy to go grey though and that’s my interior doors and windows. I’m behind, as usual, with this trend of dark grey or black interior doors but the color is classic and I think the trend is going to be around for a long time.
Now I know it isn’t necessary to apologize for what I’m going to show you but I really want you to see beyond the big glaring distractions that pull you out of the moment and keep you from fully enjoying my doors.

Good, now we can move forward.
These were all my kitchen doors and windows. This window is my favorite.
Ahhh, going grey has made me so very happy. 🙂
By the way, that friend I told you about? I’m not offended by what she said to me. She is who she is and she is still my friend. I’ve found that my friends are a great big mix of personalities and none of them are quite the same as me (good thing). We accept and love one another in spite of our differences and learn and grow in the process.
Thanks for stopping by today. Have a beautiful week my friends.
P.S. The colors I used were: Doors – Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal; Ceiling – Sherwin Williams Fawn Brindle; Lower Dining room wall – Sherwin Williams Grecian Ivory (I love the grey undertones in this color and you can see that it provides quite a contrast to the trim); Trim – Sherwin Williams Creamy; Kitchen walls – Benjamin Moore Beach Glass.
P.S.S. In answer to a question from one of you: I painted the doors while they were hanging, and used the painting method I share on my sidebar (Ten Steps to a Perfectly painted Door). For these interior doors I used a 1″ brush in the indentations and a small sponge roller for the flat areas. It was amazing and oh, so quick! As for the hardware, I used a very small brush and carefully painted around it (I do have a steady hand), but for future doors I will take the doorknobs off and spray paint them while the doors are being painted. You could tape around them too.
