Baby it’s Cold Chalkboard Hearth Bucket

December 8, 2015 by Patti 14 Comments

How in the world did this battered old white bucket with the goofy looking rainbow trout painted on it’s side make it’s way into the moving van and travel all the way across the country with us?  When we were feverishly trying to lighten the load by selling and giving away things of value (like all of my thrifted furniture that was slated for makeover – TEARS) how did this silly bucket make the cut?

Woodland Mantle 042

Perhaps we’ll never know the answer to that question unless maybe, just maybe, it was destined for some purpose all along.  With Christmas right around the corner and some of the prettiest pinecones I’ve ever seen just waiting to be displayed, I took a little walk out to the garage where said bucket jumped right out at me and begged for a makeover.  With a lumpy bottom (Hmmm, sounds familiar) from the water that froze in it one winter when it was the dog dish, this little bucket wasn’t worth much.

Baby it's Cold Bucket 005

Being transformationally inclined I pounded out the dents in the bottom so it would no longer tip sideways.  Then I printed off this free chalkboard art that I found on Pinterest.

That and a bottle of Mod Podge gave this old bucket new purpose in life!

Baby it's Cold Bucket 001

I applied some Mod Podge to the bucket, carefully applied the chalkboard art, then sealed it with a little more Mod Podge over the top.  Piece of cake right?

Woodland Mantle 038

It’s the perfect thing to hold my pinecones and a few sprigs of berries.

And these are the most perfect pinecones I’ve ever seen, collected on Tybee Island this Fall.

I’ve pinned some of my favorite free printables and also some tutorials for drawing your own chalkboard art to my Chalkboard Art board on Pinterest which you can find right HERE.

Baby, it IS getting cold outside, even here in South Carolina.  It is the perfect weather for enjoying an evening by the fire and the beauty of another Old Thing made New.

Blessings,

When we used to spend a lot of time in the Carolina’s, I would just drool over those fantastic pine cones, and yes….I know Tybee Island is in Georgia, but different areas of the South have varying pine trees which in turn yield varying cones……well, duh! you say….hahaha, but my point is that they are so unlike the pine cones we have around here and they captured my heart. You are so fortunate to have been transplanted to an area rich in so many wonderful things! Bless your heart….* 😉
This is a cute idea….going into my someday-I’m-gonna-do-that-file.
    Blessings, Miz Patti

Well, cold outside would not be a message that would work for me, but I love your bucket and might just have to try that method to get a graphic on one of my old buckets.

    Patti,
L O V E your fishing bucket turned Christmas Bucket, dear friend!!!
I have a friend whom recently moved from her home of 27 years to a downsize town home.
She told at our Circle meeting when she opened the first box at her new home, she asked her husband,
“Why did we pack these”??? He had no clue. Her response, “Start a new pile for the Thrift Shop!!!”
Your post reminded me of the “funny” things we do when preparing for a move!!!
Glad this little bucket made the journey with you!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

Your bucket is fabulous! So clever! I don’t have a cool bucket that’s survived all our moves, but I have a bunch of Charlotte, NC pinecones that I REFUSE to get rid of …. even moved them overseas and back !

Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

Instagram post 2177901818655098666_308355002 Tomorrow I will participate in Purple Stride in San Antonio, a 5k to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer. This is the deadliest cancer with the lowest survival rate of only 9% at two years. My friend @summerthymes, a PC survivor, signed up for this walk several months ago in honor of my Kelly💜. I can’t wait to join her and other friends and family to participate. I’ve packed my suitcase with a lot of purple 💜 but also a little bit of green and blue for the ultimate Seahawk fan💙💚#PanCan #purplestride #5k #sanantonio #pancreaticcancer #facinggriefheadon #iheartkellykrank #whynotus #gohawks
Instagram post 2175066562012924288_308355002 Here’s a peek at the bedroom in our newly finished basement space. I found a bed, side table, and dresser on Marketplace and gave them all some painting love. The bedding and some of the other decor items were a result of shopping my house. The rug and a few other finishing touches were purchased new but all in all, this space was decorated on a pretty slim budget. The third picture is the view from the bedroom. Thank you Ashmore Homes for creating this beautiful new space. #coastaldecor #lakelifestyle #lakedecor #seasalt #sherwinwilliams #thrifted furniture #paintedfurniture #shopmyhouse #decoratingonabudget #lakeviews #ashmorehomes
