Summer Blues and an Update!

June 1, 2015 by Patti 25 Comments

I’m feeling a bit excited today and I can hardly wait to share why, but first I want to share with you more blue touches I’ve added to my living room for summer and also update you on . . . the ongoing saga of the broken wrist.

Living Room 001

I’m pretty much always decorating in my head, thinking of the next thing I’d like to add to my thrifted and sale shopped home.  Are you like that too?  I discuss these things in prayer as I go throughout my day, saying things like, “Lord, if you can find me some new lampshades for my living room, at a good price, that would be awesome.”  Followed up by, “I shouldn’t say ‘if you can” Lord, because I know you can, so please will you?”

Living Room 012

That was the kind of day it was when I walked into Home Goods last week and found these lamp shades on clearance!  Why on clearance?  Because who in the world would want  peacock blue lampshades?  Wait, that would be me!

Living Room 016

If you read my living room reveal post, you know that peacock blue and aquamarine are the two accent colors I’m using in this mostly neutral colored room.  If you saw my dining room style board you know that the wallpaper I’m using on that room across the entry from the dining room has damask medallions that will reflect the pattern of the silver medallions on my new lampshades.

 Fancy that!

Living Room 014 Thank you Lord!  He does things like this for me all the time because He knows me and He knows what makes me happy.

Living Room Summer

Here are a few more touches of blue, just in time for summer.

Living Room 031

Remember the dress I pulled out of the giveaway pile to add color to this basket?  While I had my homemade chalk paint out working on another piece I couldn’t resist giving my basket’s handles a little touch of blue too.

Living Room 007

Here is a sweet new (to me) cup and saucer for my tea cart. The handle, base and pattern are silver.

Living Room 017

I remembered that I had this candle in the cupboard and pulled it into the room.  I really love the glitz of this candle holder and candle pin that I found on clearance at Michael’s!

Living Room 019

I picked up a pair of heavy crystal candle holders at a garage sale in my neighborhood for $2 and bought two more candles to use in my entry hall.

Living Room 024

They are Princess House candle holders and they come apart so they can also be used with tapers. How could I resist?

Living Room 028

Sasha is happy with the summer touches and loves to catch the afternoon sun in this room.

Living Room Summer2

As for the update on the broken wrist?  The occupational therapist says I have some nerve damage caused by the cast and that it will take 6 months to a year to heal completely.  I still have trouble making a fist and have the feeling of pins and needles almost constantly, but I’ve seen a significant improvement in the level of pain, especially this past week.  I’m anticipating a much quicker healing. Thank you Lord!

Summer Living Room 001

Still, preparing this post had to be done in stages because use of the mouse and keyboard is painful.  I’m honestly not complaining though because I’ve learned a lot about myself during this time away from the computer.  I suspect that my posts will be fewer than normal for awhile and I hope you’ll continue to be patient with me.  I appreciate those of you who come and read and comment on the things I share about my home and my life.  It really means so much to me.

cherubsoilpainting (3)

Finally, what is that thing I’m so excited about today?  You know how I said that God knows me and He knows what I like?  Well, my husband is a bit like that too and he likes to do things that make me happy.  We are off on a little adventure for the next couple of days and I’ll be back later this week to share the adventure with you.  The picture above is a bit of a teaser!

Until later, blessings to y’all,

    Everything looks lovely and fresh.

Well, the reason I am just learning about your wrist is because of my own hand issues. My hand is healing after surgery, but some days, I just can’t use the computer. I am behind on all my reading and when I do read, I often don’t comment because of the pain in my hand.

    Hang in there and heal!

Patti, your room is so pretty! Those lampshades just make the space….well not really…it’s all pretty. But those lampshades are extra special. You did a great job adding touches of blue around the space. It all looks great including the sweet puppy who lives there. 🙂

Have a great time on your get away.

Patti. your living room looks beautiful. I know what you mean about God knowing all about you. He is like that with me too and he has a sense of humor about letting me find things too. So sorry that your arm is taking so long to heal and that you are in so much pain with it. Have a great time on your little away time.

    Hi Patti,
Been awhile since I have been by but always enjoy my time here. Love love love those blue lampshades…..the Lord
does know us and knows how to make us happy that is for sure, and just one of his love gifts. I get those too. It is
always so sweet to see what happens when we pray……..he does amazing things….and that is so exciting!
So sorry to hear about your wrist, don’t know how you broke it but glad to hear it is healing and will pray it heals
completely, but good you are taking an easy with it. Isn’t it so amazing the things the Lord teaches us in difficult
times if we are looking and willing to receive it, very good things!!
Hope you enjoy your time away with your hubby. Oh yea, loved the candle with the candle pin, never even heard
of that, but it looks amazing. Enjoy the way you decorate, you do a great job.
    Blessings, Nellie

I love that color and the lampshades are absolutely gorgeous. Perfect on your lamp bases! Hope your wrist heals quickly! I have a hard time making fists anymore. Especially in the morning. Welcome! I am Perfectly Imperfect Patti and I’d like to invite you to come in and take a seat in this creative space of mine.

I love the process of hunting for orphaned and cast off furniture (particularly my Chosen Chairs) and then taking the time to transform each piece into something new and beautiful. This process allows me to reflect upon my own story of transformation and blesses me over and over with each piece I redesign.

This is the first in a series of cookbooks, and this one features delicious beef and poultry recipes. It also includes dozens of recipes for dressings and spice blends to use in cooking, along with a weekly meal planner, water tracker, weekly exercise log, etc.
What is E2M? It is a virtual, eight week, rapid body transformation program for adults, which consists of workouts, meal, plans, cooking classes, mental fitness, and personal coaching. Workouts are designed for all fitness levels and can be done at home or in a gym. Our fit family is made up of people from across the world, from various backgrounds and ages, and we all have one common goal: to encourage each other to reach our personal best lifestyle fitness goals. After the first eight weeks, the program is available for free to maintain progress. This isn’t about getting skinny. It’s about building a healthier lifestyle, living longer, and getting the most out of the one body you’ve been blessed with. The next round opens on Thursday, and I truly hope you’ll check it out!

“In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and “In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, was asked to create a Christmas special for CBS featuring the Peanuts Characters. He agreed with one requirement, that they allow him to include the story of the birth of Jesus. Although the stations executives were hesitant and tried to convince him otherwise, Schulz was insistent. As a result, for the past 50 plus years, millions of people have watched “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and heard the story of Jesus and “what Christmas is all about.”

It wasn’t until a few years back that I realized a “hidden message” in the film. Linus, a child who seems to have some insecurities as he carries a security blanket with him at all times. In fact, Linus NEVER drops his blanket, except once....

While sharing the message of “what Christmas is all about,” Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words, “fear not!”

In this seemingly innocent moment, Linus delivers a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. We are to “fear not”, for Jesus is born. We needn’t rely on material things for security, we have God with us, “Immanuel”, (Matthew 1:23) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior - the true meaning of Christmas.

Awhile back, someone informed me, indignantly so, that Linus picks up his blanket at the end of the speech so my interpretation must be wrong. Well, he was right, Linus does pick up his blanket at the end of his speech. However, he “drops” it again later...

Amid big, bright, colorful, shiny artificial trees, Charlie Brown chose the least of these, a little, wooden tree with just a few branches. Shortly thereafter, Linus uses his blanket to wrap about the base of the tree and says, “Maybe it just needs a little love”. In that moment, the tree “awakens”, stands tall and firm. A reminder that no matter who we are, how many mistakes we’ve made, a “little love” can make all the difference.

Let’s strive to “fear not” (Luke 2:10) and “love one another” (John 13:34), not just at Christmastime, but the whole year through.”
