The Confession That Saved my Life

March 11, 2015 by Patti 9 Comments

Most of us have had them.  Shameful secrets help deep within. Secrets we promise ourselves we will take to the grave because if we ever shared them . . . painful rejection would surely follow.  The problem with keeping our secrets buried is that they can keep us in bondage to shame and lead us into deep, deep despair.

Confess your faults to one another

Today, I have the honor of sharing a part of my story over at Deb Wolfe’s great blog, Counting my Blessings.  The story I’ll share has never been shared on this Old Things New blog, filled mostly with fun, happy, pretty things . . .  but it is a part of the very fabric of who I am and it is a part of what makes me want to see things . . . and people . . . transformed.

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever written so I’d love for you to head on over to Deb’s to read it and, if you would, please share your thoughts in the comment section on Deb’s  Counting my Blessings website.

I love you my dear readers.

Blessings,

Patti I am a Christian but not so much of a Bible reader. The only thing from the Bible that sticks in my mind is “Judge not lest ye be Judged.” Don’t let anyone judge you.

Well, I am completely caught off guard by your “story”. Obviously, through your many posts referring to your hidden secrets, you had gone through a lot. But Patti, I am so in awe of your courage and your trust in others to not judge you for printing this. You have released such a great power unto others. Do you realize that?

I can only guess the fear and misgivings you certainly must’ve felt in trying to put onto paper what is still a heart wrenching ordeal. I personally have never experienced this same situation, however the Spirt in me recognizes the Spirit in you, and reaches out to touch you, and to tell you what an amazing Daughter of the King that you are! Like so many others you have touched, I count my blessings to be included in that number!

Patti, Thank you so much for allowing me to share your story. It was my honor and blessing to have your words pour into hearts on CMB. Your strength inspires me. You give glory to the One who loves and redeems. Your words give hope and healing. Thank you my friend! God bless you!

Patti…this story surely caught me off guard, that is for sure.
And it brought the tears….tears of remembrance.
Women (especially YOUNG women) think abortion is a “quick fix” to a big “problem”.
It surely is NOT. Years of (often unconscious) thoughts of unworthiness, (leading to BAD relationship decisions) and guilt usually follow because we have not dealt with it properly…mostly because we don’t know HOW to.
But….. then steps in JESUS!!! All I can say is AMEN!

Thanks for posting this story…I am sure God used you to help women who have not yet forgiven themselves.
May God continue to use you and bless you through your ministry (ONline and off!!!)

Thank you for being brave and sharing this! Whether or not readers have had an abortion, we all need to hear this. We need to show love and care for those who have. We need to remember that we have a God who heals! God bless you as you continue on the healing path…

Patti, I tried to post this comment at Deb’s blog, but I’m not sure if it went through. So I’ll post it here as well, just in case. THANK YOU so much for being you!

Thank you, Deb, for featuring this post from my sweet friend Patti. And Patti, thank you so much for sharing this raw, intimate story. I’m so glad you’ve chosen this method for getting your story to a wider audience. Mostly, I’m heart-glad for the peace that you’ve found as you’ve trusted this and all your life to Christ. Thank you for being such a wonderful witness. I’m featuring this post at this week’s Grace at Home party!
