Living Room Reveal- Painting Done, Color Added!

March 2, 2015 by Patti 27 Comments

“Some day.”  Two of the most frustrating words a child can hear.  What does that mean . . . some day?  It didn’t take long for this child to know that this was a tactic to put me off until I forgot about whatever I was urgently asking for.  I was a child of ideas and when I wanted to put them into action my mother often had to think about it . . . usually just long enough for me to forget about it.

Except for the time that three of my little girlfriends and I found her in the backyard, hanging out the laundry to dry.  Right there we got down on our knees and begged her to let us participate in the boat parade at Lake Cavanaugh. It was to be a juried event and there would be a prize for the best boat! That day she dropped her laundry right where it was and we hopped on the bus to Pacific Iron and Metal where she bought Hawaiian print fabric for dresses that would rock the parade and win the grand prize! Of course it didn’t hurt our chances that we had the handsome, and much older (15) Dougie as our backup guitarist.  But I digress.

Living Room Before

Living Room Before Updates

This is a BEFORE picture from my Almost Finished Living Room Reveal where I shared with you the changes I wanted to make to my living room . . . eventually.  Eventually is a lot like “some day” to me.  It seems like an awfully long time to wait once I have an idea swirling in my head.

Color Board

Living room before

In that post I shared the accent colors I wanted to use in my living room and the color I wanted to paint the walls.  I also told you that my plan would have to wait until my dining room was finished.  Well . . . since the painting of my dining room chairs came to a standstill (the store mixed the wrong color of paint) I saw that as a sign that I was meant to tackle the living room.

After a day of prepping the room for painting by removing cracking caulk and re-caulking, taking down pictures and filling holes with spackle, taping and trimming the room, the painting itself was a breeze.  Two quick coats while listening to a movie on Hallmark Movie Channel.  I laughed, I cried, I painted my living room.

Pale yellow gone, fresh and clean Sandstone Cove gives the room a nice neutral background.

Now for the pops of color!  Let me take you on a little tour. Since I like to be thrifty I only purchased two new items for my living room and pulled items from my home for the rest.  One of my purchases was this peacock blue pillow that I found on sale at Target for $17!

Living Room After

The second was this tall vase from Home Goods for $19.99

I’ll be sharing a lot of pictures highlighting the touches of blue in my Living Room, so get comfortable, grab a cuppa’ Joe (or tea or chocolate) and off we’ll go!

Do you remember these pillows?

Living Room After

Here they are after a little transformation with peacock blue paint.  Do you think I should add paint to the diamond stitching and trim too or would that be too much?

By the way, I purchased the sea fan from Sherry at No Minimalist Here.  I love her style . . . and her header.  I think it is what first inspired my color choices.

An antique biscuit jar came from my china cabinet.

Now for some final shots of the room.

And one last photo so you can see how the colors in the rug bring everything together!

A coat of fresh paint and a few color accents and this room is pretty much a wrap!  Of course, I’m never finished decorating, so if I happen to find some fab deals on a few more items in peacock blue or aquamarine, I may just be back with another “share.”

Do you like decorating with blue and white?  For more inspiration check out my Blue and White Pinterest board HERE, or my Aqua Love Pinterest board HERE.  They are to drool for!

Thanks for stopping by.  I do hope you come back to see what’s up next!

Blessings,

Love how the addition of more blue and the new background walls made such a difference.
All those added blue touches really do make the room stand out so much more.

Love decorating on a dime myself, and blue is a major color in my house too.
Love your rug too, very pretty. Lovely cozy and charming traditional living room.
Great job, and thanks for sharing it with us. Liked your idea of putting your topiary
tree up on a stack of books. Great idea.
