Chocolate-Raspberry Love

February 8, 2015 by Patti 16 Comments

Chocolate Raspberry Dessert 001

A message of enticement, inspired by LOVE!

Chocolate-raspberry is OUR thing.  It is one of the first desserts we shared on a date aboard the Spirit of Washington dinner train. The same train where we later declared our marriage vows.

Awww . . . romance is in the air!

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 009

For better or for worse.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 017

Sometimes he’s had the best of me . . .

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 020 . . . and sometimes he’s endured the worst from me.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 015

It’s been a mutual thing, this sharing of best and worst.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 008

God’s love is never ending. His love never fails.  He’s never given up on me . . . or my husband.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentines Dessert 001

Sometimes I’m sure that both of us wondered what the outcome of our marriage would be, especially during “the difficult years”.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentines Dessert 003

God knew.  He carried us through the hard times.  He brought healing into our lives and into our marriage.  He set each of us free from the underlying causes of our pain . . . pain that caused each of us to act out in ways that hurt each other.  God never gave up on us and . . . thankfully . . . we never gave up on each other.

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 022

We share a special love that is stronger now than ever.  God knew all along that Our Story would eventually be used for His glory.

This fabulous dessert came from a Pampered Chef party and it is a favorite wherever we take it. It is a breeze to make with your favorite brownie mix. I prefer to use a dark chocolate mix and dark chocolate curls for garnish.

It is still for better or worse with us, but most of the time what we experience is the better . . . and Chocolate-Raspberry Love is the best!

Chocolate Raspberry Valentine's Dessert 014

Much love to you my Valentines.

Blessings,

Shabby Flannel Roses for Valentine’s Day

February 6, 2015 by Patti 15 Comments

Have you ever had a love affair with an article of clothing?  Some things are easy to put into the donation bag and some . . . well . . . not so easy.

Shabby Flannel Roses

Sounds silly right?  But this little red flannel shirt and I go back a long way.  She’s experienced a lot of life with me.  Once crisp and new, she is now aged to the perfect degree of softness.  Once stylin’ with a pair of crisp black jeans she now looks better paired with faded ol’ blue jeans.  Once a perfect fit, she is now snug across the back and the front.  No, it isn’t too many trips to Cracker Barrel (though this new place we’ve found to eat since moving south worries my youngest daughter greatly), it is this strange shape-shifting thing that is going on now that I’m about to turn . . . EEK . . . 60!!!  But even with my renewed commitment to fitness (Water Zumba – so much FUN) this shirt is past it’s prime . . .  one sleeve is covered in paint, the color frayed, and fabric wearing thin.

Shabby Flannel Roses

So rather than toss my beloved shirt, I decided to make some flannel rosettes, especially since it is red and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  With a few strips cut and rolled, and a little bit of hot glue, it was a quick and easy project accomplished in just over an hour.

Shabby Flannel Roses

Voila!  Shabby flannel roses!  Here, I’ve attached them to a kitchen towel to add to my Valentine’s Day decor.

Shabby Flannel Roses

What do you think?

Flannel Roses 029

I think there is nothing cuter than rosettes made of flannel.

Shabby Flannel Roses

I think they are good for my health because they make me smile!

Flannel Roses 033

I think they add a great pop of color to my white kitchen.

Shabby Flannel Roses

I think they look perfect right alongside my Valentine’s Day towels.

Wool Shirt Rosette Wreath 001-001

There are so many things you can do with flannel rosettes.  I made these rosettes a few years ago for a Christmas wreath but for
Valentine’s Day you could make a heart-shaped wreath, or attach them to a Valentine’s Day card or gift, or put a pin on the back and wear them on the lapel of a jean jacket (cute right?), or make a whole bouquet of plaid roses and pop them into a vase!

My ALMOST Finished Living Room Reveal!

February 5, 2015 by Patti 16 Comments

What’s wrong with this picture?  Can you see the two things that bug me about it? Haha! You may see a lot of things that bother you about it that I’m not even aware of, and I don’t need to be aware of them either, because in my obsessed decorator’s thinking I will stew on them and go sleepless over them and maybe even decide to change things up again.

Living room 045

Ughhhh!!! The thoughts of a former perfectionist sometimes creep in and try to take me captive!

The formal living room in our new house is pretty well put together but it probably won’t be exactly like I want it to be for awhile longer either because I have other priorities to tackle.

Living room 047

Like our formal dining room, which you can see across the hall from the living room.  It is still partially stripped of wallpaper and has a whole dining room set that’s waiting for attention.  Since we want to reach new heights in hospitality (Hospitality part one and part two can be seen HERE and HERE) in our new home, that is the first priority.

Living room 046

So let me give you a tour of what we have done in here so far.  This is my Craigslist velvet couch.  Custom made and only a year old when I found it.

Living room 007

This is the view looking from the den into the living room and I think the BIGGEST thing that bothers me about this room is most evident here.  Have you guessed what it is yet?  (By the way, if you haven’t seen the den reveal yet you can take a peek right HERE)

Living room 006

Most of the furniture in this room was either given to me or thrifted.  Only the rug (Catherine by Ballard Designs) and the two end tables (Leilani from Hayneedle) were purchased new, and on sale, after we moved in.

Living room 034

These two chairs belonged to my mother.  I had them recovered from pink velvet to a more modern pattern in gold and black.

Some winter decor and our living room 068

Here’s a little thrifted table we found in an antique mall in Anderson, SC.  I say thrifted because you can’t get buys like this on new furniture!

Living room 005

This desk also belonged to my mom and I love keeping my note cards and pretty writing supplies here.

Living room 012

We found two of these little chairs on Craigslist.  I will eventually recover them but for now the color is perfect for the space!

Some winter decor and our living room 035

This was one of my father’s first woodworking projects after he retired.  Each of us girls got something he made and I’m thankful to have this reminder of him.

Living room 065

I chose a rug with muted colors for this room.  It has a lot of greys and taupes and also seafoam green and gold accents.

Living room 067

That brings me to the first big thing that bothers me about this room.  Even though the rug has gold accents in it, the yellow walls just don’t feel right to me. I would really prefer to paint the walls a more neutral “greige” type color.  The yellow makes the room bright and cheery but this color, Sandstone Cove, is still light enough, and has enough yellow undertones in it that it will continue to be bright.  This color will also make our entire downstairs entertaining space flow more smoothly from room to room.  If you look at the entryway above it is already a similar color and eventually the den and the dining room will be as well.

Living Room 010a

The second thing that bothers me?  After the walls are painted the whole room will be more neutral in color.  That’s the idea, right?  But as much as I love all of the beautiful neutral rooms I see on design blogs, I crave color.  I want to use some of my favorite colors as accents.  The pretty aquamarine color in this fishing float (also one of the colors in the rug) and some brighter peacock blue like the color in this pillow.

So that’s it for now. It sure does take a long time to settle into a new and completely different type of home than I’ve had before.

Next up, I have a couple of Valentine’s Day posts for you (Shabby Flannel Rosettes and a Chocolate/Raspberry Valentine’s Dessert) before I share my Living Room Part Two.  I’ve already been shopping my house for added pops of color and I’ll also be sharing some of the close up details of this room.  I DO hope you’ll come back again.

Blessings,
