The Greatest Flea Market on Earth

March 27, 2014 by Patti 19 Comments

01-Pasadena Flea Market at the Rose Bowl 008So where do I begin?  Anyone who reads flea market type magazines has heard of the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market.  I myself have been fascinated by stories about it for a long time.  So when my youngest daughter Bethany moved to Pasadena I was thrilled to have the the chance to check it out for myself.

02-Pasadena Flea Market at the Rose Bowl 010It is billed as The Greatest Flea Market on Earth!  I don’t know if that’s true or not but I’m here to tell ya’ that it is ginormous!  We started off shopping the circle around the perimeter of the arena first before we realized that there was another huge section  over the bridge and behind the arena.  Row upon row of junk, glorious junk!

There were handcrafted items, vintage clothing, antiques, Steam Punk, rustic, industrial . . . but enough talking already, come along and see our day at The Greatest Flea Market on Earth!

Of course we couldn’t possibly see it all.  There comes a point in the day where you just can’t take any more in.  But it was wonderful and fun, there was something for everyone, the prices ranged from a bit too high to great bargains, especially as it came closer to closing time and the vendors were offering discounts.  I was restrained in my buying (a fortunate thing I guess) by the fact that I had only one bag to bring home on the plane and it was already full with the flowers I bought at the L.A. Flower Market.  We escaped the market with only one small purchase for my daughter’s apartment (which is darling by the way and well done on a student’s budget, but that is for a future post).

So was it The Greatest Flea Market on Earth?  I’ve never been to one better, and in the end it was a great day of sunshine, people watching, eating, shopping and spending time with my girl.  I would definitely do it all again!

Blessings to you,

My Signature

Wow, it looks like a fantastic place to spend a day {or two}, Patti! I could definitely see myself coming home with one of those hats and some silver trays. I have heard about this flea market for years. Never been myself, but I’m sure if I ever get to the Pasadena area I would make it a must see stop.

What an amazing flea market. I wish I could spend a day there, I’m sure I would find some great vintage pieces of furniture to restore. Maybe I will get there someday.

Omigosh, I would have loved this. Too bad this flea market wasn’t at the same time as the BCS game!

Patti, This looks like flea market heaven and you used great restraint in only purchasing one thing.
    Take care!

I was just there in November 2013 and I can only say WOW. I was dumbstruck. I even bought one of the hats in your pix. Must go back someday.

I had the opportunity to visit the Rose Bowl Flea Market about fifteen years ago, after hearing about it forever and wanting to go. It’s so huge, it’s almost overwhelming, but- like you- I thought it was the best in the country. I will probably never get the opportunity to go again, so thank you for sharing the pics…brings back memories.

I’m visiting from Home And Garden Thursday. This post is getting me itching to go on a junking adventure this week. There won’t be nearly as much as that flea market. I don’t think my brain could take it all in either without short circuiting first. Lovely pictures of everything.

Wow!! Fabulous Flea Market. I might just have to put this on my bucket list!!! We have a big flea market by us but it is not high quality items and I very rarely go because every time I do I come home disappointed. But this flea market looks like a flea market I would thoroughly enjoy!!

Looks like a fantastic flea market. What I would not give to go there if only for the furniture on offer. As a furniture restorer I would be in vintage heaven.
