Garden Houses

April 3, 2013 by Patti 22 Comments

It is a beautiful Spring morning here in the Pacific Northwest. A couple of weeks ago I treated myself to the purchase of these sweet rain boots, which I quickly turned into vases for my front porch.  I’m glad I don’t need to wear them right now because I really like just looking at them.
I’ve been dreaming lately of what it would be like to have a garden house in my yard. I could slip on my pretty boots and go out to the garden house with my spade and gardening gloves and do a little planting . . . or . . .  I could take along a nice cup of tea and a blanket, and settle in to read a good book.  Come along and dream with me as I show you some of the beautiful garden houses I’ve found.
This one , at the edge of the raised garden beds, has a great potting area and wonderful sliding doors.  Pretty isn’t it?

This one is really more of a sit and read garden house. I can see myself there on a warm Spring afternoon.

I love the colors and the architectural detail of this garden house. Tin panels on the front and the beautiful half circle window make it so elegant. I think there is a tea party going on inside right now.
Source
This looks like it could be set here in the northwest with it’s woodsy setting. It looks so cheery and welcoming inside.
Source

A lakeside garden house? I’m not sure that qualifies as a real garden house but I like the way it looks, especially at night.
Source

Another house in the woods. This is cute with it’s weathered wood siding and painted trim. Interesting . . . the little people over the doorway.
Source

I love this cottage garden and the vines growing up the porch railings on this little garden house.
Source
The house below is made from old windows and doors. This is the back . . .

. . . and this is the front. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Source
I’ve saved the best for last. Take a look at this tiny little garden house. You won’t believe what’s on the inside. The door is open . . .

Source

Am I right? So elegant and inviting. Keep going, there’s more . . .

I could definitely settle in for a nap here.

Look! They even have garden boots on the porch!

Outside appearances can certainly be deceiving can’t they?

Source

I hope you’ve enjoyed taking a little time to dream with me. I don’t really have a place to build a garden house where I live but I love the idea and I enjoy seeing the special places others have made for themselves. We can all make a special place of beauty wherever we live. It doesn’t have to be grand. It can be as simple as a comfy chair where one can sit and reflect and just be still  . . . even if only for a little while.

Where is your special place? I’d love to hear!

    Blessings,

    Hi Patti,
What a beautiful dream! I am a ‘gardener’ of sorts and would love to have a beautiful garden house – I’d sleep there. I’d put in a skylight to watch the stars…Sigh. The last one belongs to Sandy Foster of My Shabby Streamside Studio. It was a labour of love for her. Check out the link below. She and I were actually featured in a beautiful book from Norway just before Christmas! I am honoured to even be in the same book with Sandy. She was on the Nate Berkus Show, too, talking about her little house! It is truly swoonworthy…I loved seeing it again! I’ll be back soon. :-)))) Nice to ‘meet’ ya!

Hi Patti, oh am I ever dreaming of a garden house! We actually planned on building one this Spring. But then we decided to finish the basement. Garden house will have to wait till next year. I adore so many of these. I have a garden shed pinterest board. I will be adding a few of these. I had seen that last one before. It certainly is amazing! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

this is the 2nd time I’ve seen boots used as vases this week…and I like yours just as much! I saw some cute boots in either Joann Fabrics or a craft store awhile back. I was tempted but did not buy. Now I wish that I had as the idea is just so cute to have flowers in them! 🙂

Beautiful little garden houses! I’d love to curl up with a good book and a mug of hot cocoa in one. Not sure how much gardening I’d actually do… 🙂

Thank you for linking up with Much Ado About Monday. We hope to see you again next week!

I have always wanted a “little” cottage in my yard for me to escape. My favorites of all the beautiful ones you shared are the pink house and the house of doors. I hope you get your little garden cottage.
