Decorating Style Quiz

February 1, 2013 by Patti 20 Comments

A few months ago I received an email from Home Goods that included a short quiz to discover my decorating style.  This was GREAT since I’ve always had a hard time pinpointing what it was.  I’ve changed my decor as the trends have changed, but when I took this quiz I realized that, deep down, my basic decorating style has remained the same . . . a little bit plain and a little bit fancy.  So what did the quiz say about me? That my style is Farmhouse Glam!  That’s it!  I’ve  finally got a name for how I decorate!

The quiz is very quick yet surprizingly accurate . I emailed it to some friends and it really seemed to pinpoint their tastes as well.  To take the Home Goods Stylescape quiz click on this link.  Once you’ve found your style you’ll also find some tips on decorating in that style.  But before you start, here are a few pics taken throughout my home that will show why I am Farmhouse Glam.  Duh!  Was I blind?

Farmhouse furniture

 Glam furniture

Farmhouse curtains (made from painter’s dropcloths)

Glam curtain hardware

Farmhouse bench

Glam wall decor above the bench

Farmhouse cabinets with a distressed finish

Glam backsplash

Farmhouse picture frame hung above a Glam picture frame

Farmhouse burlap cord cover . . .
 . . .on a Glam chandelier

Farmhouse copper pots

Glam silver & crystal pieces

 Farmhouse catch-all in entry hall

Glam “Welcome” in entry hall
   Farmhouse light fixture

                                                            Glam light fixture

And finally . . .  it isn’t just our home decor that defines our style, but our choice is clothing is often similar.  Case in point . . . here is a typical outfit I’d pick to go out shopping or to church.  I am all about jeans and boots (farmhouse) but I love to add sparkle to my outfits (glam). I also love the soft cozyness of this little faux fur jacket.

This was such a fun quiz and it only takes about two minutes.  Give it a try!  I’d love to hear back from you what you find out about yourself and your own unique style. Enjoy!

Patti

I took the quiz and there were two images I just couldn’t decide between, so I took it twice. I ended up being either Modern Metro or New Country depending on only one image. It kinda works for me as I think of myself as urban farmhouse. So I think for Home Goods I am Metro Country! I like it!

I got Sassy! I think it is pretty accurate! I have a lot of bright colors in my apartment like it says to have and I started with a white backdrop. Thanks for the quiz though, it had a lot of great ideas!

Sassy is just that! She couldn’t be short on personality if she tried. She expresses herself with playful colors, fun patterns, and an unabashed boldness—all acquired at very savvy prices. She knows her style, and she’s not afraid to take risks and have fun. When you visit a Sassy friend, you can’t help but smile.

Haha isn’t it crazy when a quiz just hits right home? I feel like they’re either totally accurate or just a plain bust. And farmhouse + glam? Love. That’s the best style. I’m really digging the outfit you posted – I would totally wear that!!

It is crazy, especially when the quiz is so simplistic. Nice to meet another farmhouse glam person!

I got Urban Funk the first time, with a touch of BoHo. Second time I got new country, with a touch of BoHo. So I think I am Urban Country Funky Boho!

Well you certainly wouldn’t see any Urban Funk, or Boho, not really country either. More woodsy, cabin-y, family, lived-in look. LOL!

Welcome! I am Perfectly Imperfect Patti and I’d like to invite you to come in and take a seat in this creative space of mine.

I love the process of hunting for orphaned and cast off furniture (particularly my Chosen Chairs) and then taking the time to transform each piece into something new and beautiful. This process allows me to reflect upon my own story of transformation and blesses me over and over with each piece I redesign.

It also includes dozens of recipes for dressings and spice blends to use in cooking, along with a weekly meal planner, water tracker, weekly exercise log, etc.

“In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and “In 1965, Charles Schulz, a devout Christian and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, was asked to create a Christmas special for CBS featuring the Peanuts Characters. He agreed with one requirement, that they allow him to include the story of the birth of Jesus. Although the stations executives were hesitant and tried to convince him otherwise, Schulz was insistent. As a result, for the past 50 plus years, millions of people have watched “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and heard the story of Jesus and “what Christmas is all about.”

It wasn’t until a few years back that I realized a “hidden message” in the film. Linus, a child who seems to have some insecurities as he carries a security blanket with him at all times. In fact, Linus NEVER drops his blanket, except once....

While sharing the message of “what Christmas is all about,” Linus drops his blanket at the exact moment he says the words, “fear not!”

In this seemingly innocent moment, Linus delivers a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. We are to “fear not”, for Jesus is born. We needn’t rely on material things for security, we have God with us, “Immanuel”, (Matthew 1:23) Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior - the true meaning of Christmas.

Awhile back, someone informed me, indignantly so, that Linus picks up his blanket at the end of the speech so my interpretation must be wrong. Well, he was right, Linus does pick up his blanket at the end of his speech. However, he “drops” it again later...

Amid big, bright, colorful, shiny artificial trees, Charlie Brown chose the least of these, a little, wooden tree with just a few branches. Shortly thereafter, Linus uses his blanket to wrap about the base of the tree and says, “Maybe it just needs a little love”. In that moment, the tree “awakens”, stands tall and firm. A reminder that no matter who we are, how many mistakes we’ve made, a “little love” can make all the difference.

Let’s strive to “fear not” (Luke 2:10) and “love one another” (John 13:34), not just at Christmastime, but the whole year through.”
